Visualizing global energy needs and abilities for National Geographic.
National Geographic requested a website and framework to tell the story of global energy consumption, production, and distribution over time. They provided extensive research data in spreadsheets, but had no preconceived plan for how to organize the information and create a compelling experience. I lead the UX for the overall framework, and designed the final UI for the data visualization tools, devising methods to explore and understand energy production and consumption across terms of type, time, volume, and geo-political boundary.
During the process, I also consulted with National Geographic's Map team to improve their GeoStories explorer tool, which is still in use today.
